The 9 Best Paired Alternatives in 2026 (Free and Paid)

Paired is a good app. It's also $14.99 a month, and on some days it feels like a course. Here's what each alternative does differently from Paired, what it costs, and when you should just stay put.

Quick answer

The best free alternative to Paired is Lovewick, and the cheapest close copy of the Paired idea is CoupleBee ($12 a year for both of you). For one simple question a day, pick Agapé; for long distance, Between; for working through real problems, Lasting. If Paired felt like homework and you want a lighter 2-minute daily ritual, that's I Choose You, which I make (iPhone only, disclosure below).

Paired, reviewed in one minute

Credit where it's due: Paired is the biggest app in this category and one of the most polished. Its listing says 8 million downloads, it has more than 200,000 ratings on the US App Store, and Apple made it App of the Day in August 2026. The core loop is simple. You both answer a daily question, and you only see your partner's answer once you've added yours.

Around that, Premium stacks a lot: 1,000+ questions, quizzes and games, guided journeys, topic packs on things like money, sex, conflict and love languages, weekly insights and "Secret Missions" to surprise each other. Paired says its content is created with licensed relationship therapists (LMFT, LMHC, LPC, Psy.D.), and it cites an independent study of 4,400 couples by The Open University and the University of Brighton. One subscription covers both of you, it's on iPhone and Android, and it works fine for long-distance couples.

My one-line review: if you want to actively work on your relationship with expert-written material, Paired is the one to beat.

Why people look for a Paired alternative

These are the common reasons, and the ones you can see on the listing itself:

  • Price. The free plan is one question a day. Premium is listed at $14.99/month on the US App Store, with annual plans from $39.99 to $74.99 (Paired's own FAQ says $79.99 per couple per year).
  • They want it free. Several apps below give away far more on their free plan.
  • They want something lighter. Paired is built around skills: communication, conflict, sex. Great if that's the goal. A lot if you just want a fun reason to text each other.
  • Long distance. Paired supports it, but some couples want a private chat, calls or their partner on the home screen.
  • A different vibe: a pet, a shared calendar, or a proper counseling-style program.

One thing that isn't a reason to leave: Android. Paired is on both iPhone and Android, and so is almost everything below. Except mine.

1.I Choose You

Best alternative for: a lighter, sillier 2-minute daily ritual

Paired wants to make you better at your relationship. I Choose You just wants you to show up for each other for two minutes a day. You get 3 questions daily, each weekday with its own theme (Real Talk Tuesday, Meme Friday…), and you answer with text, a photo, a drawing or a GIF. Your partner's answer stays locked until you've answered too, same as Paired.

I Choose You Love Canvas: a shared drawing shown on your partner's home screen
Love Canvas

Both apps can put your partner on your home screen. We do it with two-camera photos and a shared drawing you take turns on, plus a Love Streak that only grows when you both finish and a dragon you keep alive by sending compliments. What we don't have: expert courses, personalized insights, Android, or any language besides English and Czech.

  • Price: free to start; Premium (every question pack plus extras) listed at $39.99/year, weekly plans also listed; one subscription covers both of you
  • Platforms: iPhone (Android waitlist)
  • Free tier: Daily Challenge, Love Streak, free packs, photo widget, Love Canvas, Vibe Check, the dragon
  • Verdict: pick it if Paired felt like homework. Skip it if one of you is on Android or you want a structured program.

2.Lovewick

Best alternative for: Paired, but free

Where Paired's free plan stops at one question a day, Lovewick gives away 1,000+ couples questions across six card decks and 750+ date ideas you can filter. It also keeps notes on your partner (coffee order, favorite flowers, clothing size), and you can use it alone or paired. Less expert guidance, more toolbox.

  • Price: free; Lovewick Plus $9.99/month, $14.99/quarter or $29.99/year
  • Platforms: iPhone, Android
  • Free tier: the questions and date ideas above; Plus removes the daily question limit and adds milestone question sets
  • Verdict: the best answer to "apps like Paired but free". Lovewick on the App Store

3.CoupleBee

Best alternative for: the Paired idea at a fraction of the price

Honestly the closest thing to Paired on this list. You both get the same question every day, answers stay hidden until you've both shared, and there are quizzes, games, guided journeys and a shared timeline. The difference is the price tag: Premium is $12 a year and covers both partners. The catch is age. It launched in June 2026 and had no US App Store ratings yet when I checked.

  • Price: free with rewarded ads; Premium $1.99/month or $12/year, covers both partners
  • Platforms: iPhone, Android
  • Free tier: daily questions, unlocked by watching a short ad; the shared timeline needs Premium
  • Verdict: try it if Paired's price is the only thing you dislike. CoupleBee on the App Store

4.Agapé

Best alternative for: one question a day and nothing else

Agapé does the core Paired thing (one daily question, answers revealed once you've both replied) and stops there. No journeys, no quizzes. It also works with your mom or a friend, with questions tailored to each relationship, and you can opt into categories like long distance, engaged, parenting or managing finances.

  • Price: free; premium categories listed at $9.99–$14.99/month or $19.99–$99.99/year, lifetime $199.99
  • Platforms: iPhone, Android
  • Free tier: thousands of questions
  • Verdict: for couples who only ever used Paired's daily question anyway. Agapé on the App Store

5.SumOne

Best alternative for: daily questions with a pet to raise

Same daily-question habit, wrapped in a game. Your answers hatch and grow EggMon, a little egg creature whose room you decorate with items from an in-app shop. There are memo and anniversary widgets, a monthly mood record, and 9 languages. Where Paired feels like a workshop, SumOne feels like a Tamagotchi for two. The listing does mention ads and loot boxes.

  • Price: free; subscription $5.99/month or $29.99/year; gem packs from $1.99
  • Platforms: iPhone, Android
  • Free tier: daily question, pet, widgets
  • Verdict: great if "cute" matters more to you than "expert". SumOne on the App Store

6.Between

Best alternative for: long distance

Between isn't a questions app at all, and that's the point. It's a private messenger just for the two of you, with free calls, photo and video storage that survives a phone change, a shared calendar with countdowns to your special days, and a PC version. If you're long distance and Paired felt like one more thing on top of texting, Between replaces the texting.

  • Price: free with ads; Between Plus listed at $2.99/month, $24.99/year or $26.99 lifetime
  • Platforms: iPhone, Android, PC
  • Free tier: chat, calls, photos, calendar
  • Verdict: the long-distance pick. Pair it with free long-distance questions and you've got most of Paired's daily habit covered. Between on the App Store

7.Lasting

Best alternative for: working through problems

If you liked Paired's expert side and want more of it, Lasting goes further. It calls itself a marriage counseling app: short sessions on communication, conflict, repair, trust, money and sex that you each do and then talk through. Premium unlocks the app for both of you. One flag: its App Store listing hasn't been updated since February 2025.

  • Price: free Foundations series; Premium and Plus plans listed at $11.99–$89.99, with a 7-day free trial
  • Platforms: iPhone, Android
  • Free tier: 5-session Foundations series and conversation starters
  • Verdict: when something specific keeps coming up between you. Lasting on the App Store

8.Connected

Best alternative for: AI coaching and conflict tools

The closest to Paired in ambition, with an AI twist: daily questions with reveals, a weekly plan, love-language quizzes, an AI relationship coach and a Conflict Analyzer that reviews a recorded hard conversation. One subscription unlocks both partners, and the listing shows 30 languages (Paired lists three). It launched in March 2026, so it's young.

  • Price: free; Connected+ $12.99/month or $77.99/year, covers both partners
  • Platforms: iPhone, Android
  • Free tier: daily questions, quizzes
  • Verdict: for couples who want Paired plus a coach, and don't mind an AI listening in. Connected on the App Store

9.Cupla

Best alternative for: couples who can't find the time

If your honest problem with Paired was "we never actually sit down to do it", the problem may be the calendar, not the questions. Cupla is a shared calendar that syncs Apple, Google and Outlook calendars and even work rosters, plus shared to-dos, lists, wishlists and a date-night goal that reminds you when you're falling behind.

  • Price: free; Premium listed at $4.99/month or $34.99/year (other price points also listed)
  • Platforms: iPhone, Android
  • Free tier: shared calendar, lists
  • Verdict: fixes the scheduling, then you still need something to talk about. Cupla on the App Store

Two more small ones

  • Amorno: a private space for two with nine couple games, affirmations as words or voice notes, a shared album and countdowns. Free; Premium $4.99/month or $29.99/year. iPhone, Android.
  • Smush: if you only ever opened Paired for the games, this is games for two on one phone, eight modes, four intensity levels, no login. 18+, and the games need a subscription ($6.99–$49.99 listed). iPhone, Android.

When Paired is the better pick

Stay with Paired (or try it first) if:

  • One of you is on Android. I Choose You won't work for you yet. Paired will.
  • You want to work on something: communication, conflict, sex, money. Expert-written packs and weekly insights are exactly what Paired is for, and nothing on my side does that.
  • You love quizzes and games. Paired has a bigger, more polished library than any lighter app here.
  • You'd rather use it in French or German.
  • You want the established option, with 200,000+ US ratings and a 7-day free trial on the yearly plan so you can test it properly.

If none of those fit, and you mostly want a small daily moment that doesn't feel like homework, try one of the alternatives above. Or no app at all: our free couples quiz questions work fine over dinner.

I Choose You love streak screen: 2 minutes a day, not therapy

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a free alternative to Paired?

Yes. Lovewick has 1,000+ free couples questions and 750+ free date ideas, Agapé lets you answer thousands of questions for free, and Gottman Card Decks is completely free. CoupleBee is free if you unlock content with short rewarded ads. I Choose You is free to start too (iPhone only): the Daily Challenge with 3 questions a day, the Love Streak, free question packs, the photo widget and the shared Love Canvas cost nothing. For comparison, Paired's free plan gives you one question a day.

What app is like Paired but for long distance?

Between is the best pick if you want a private chat for two, with free calls, shared photos, a shared calendar and a PC version. I Choose You puts your partner on your home screen with two-camera photos and a shared drawing in a widget (iPhone only). Agapé has a long-distance question category. Paired itself also works for long-distance couples and personalizes its activities for them.

Does Paired cost money?

Paired is free to download, and the free plan includes one question to answer together each day. Paired Premium is listed on the US App Store at $14.99 a month, with annual plans from $39.99 to $74.99; Paired's own FAQ says $79.99 per couple per year. Only one partner needs to subscribe, and the yearly plan comes with a 7-day free trial.

Is Paired worth it?

If you want to actively work on your relationship with expert-written quizzes, games, topic packs and guided journeys, and you will both use them, Paired Premium is good value, especially on an annual plan that covers both of you. If you mostly used the daily question, a free or cheaper app does that job: Agapé, Lovewick or CoupleBee. Try the 7-day trial before you commit.

What is the cheapest app like Paired?

CoupleBee is the cheapest close match: the same daily question with hidden answers, plus quizzes and games, for $12 a year or $1.99 a month, and one subscription covers both partners. It is very new, though. Lovewick and Agapé are cheaper still if you stay on their free plans.
